Course Overview

When The Payout Never Matches The Books

This course is built for accountants, finance staff and business owners who handle the books and returns for an Amazon India account and keep finding that the platform payout never matches the books. You work inside real Seller Central and Vendor Central screens, download the actual reports Amazon gives you, and learn to tie the settlement report to the bank credit, to GSTR-1 and to the TCS credit in the electronic cash ledger.

It is meant for anyone tired of guessing where the difference came from. A CA handling five or ten seller clients, an in-house finance person for a growing FBA brand, or an owner who wants to check the work being done for them. By the end you register APOB for FBA states correctly, file GST from the MTR files without double counting returns, raise the right credit notes, and file FBA and Vendor Central claims before the window closes.

  • Real Seller Central and Vendor Central screens
  • Settlement, TCS and MTR reconciliation templates
  • APOB and multi-state filing playbook
  • Reimbursement and dispute claim templates

Curriculum

Three Levels, Built To Stack

Start where you are. Each level assumes the one before it, so your skills compound instead of repeat.

Level 1 · Foundations

Foundations

For those new to selling on Amazon or new to handling its accounts. You set up the account structure, understand Seller Central versus Vendor Central, and learn what every fee, tax and report line means, and finish able to read a settlement report and a tax report without confusion.

Level 2 · Practitioner

Practitioner

For finance staff and accountants who close monthly books for sellers. You reconcile settlement to bank to GSTR-1, claim TCS credit correctly, handle APOB across FBA states, and file GST from MTR files without double counting returns, and finish able to close a clean month.

Level 3 · Advanced

Advanced

For practitioners handling multi-state FBA and Vendor Central accounts. You run reimbursement and chargeback recovery, dispute shortage claims, reconcile across GSTR-8, GSTR-2B and Form 26AS, and manage the manufacturing cost data that now drives FBA payouts.

Module 1: Seller Central versus Vendor Central
Understand the two portals, first party versus third party, and how payment, fees and tax move differently in each. The common early mistake is treating a Vendor Central chargeback like a Seller Central fee, or booking gross sales as revenue when Amazon pays you net of everything.
Module 2: The Settlement Report and Payment Reconciliation
Download the settlement report, split it into sales, refunds, fees, advertising and TCS, and prove that the settled amount equals the bank credit. Money leaks when returns land in a different period than the sale, when advertising deductions are missed, and when the difference is written off as bank charges instead of investigated.
Module 3: TCS under Section 52 and TDS under 194-O
Reconcile the one percent GST TCS that Amazon collects against GSTR-8 and claim it in your electronic cash ledger, and handle the income tax TDS on gross transaction value. Sellers lose cash by never claiming accumulated TCS credit and by ignoring that TDS without PAN runs far higher.
Module 4: APOB Registration for FBA States
Register a GSTIN in each FBA state and add the fulfillment centre address as an Additional Place of Business using the NOC and rent agreement from Amazon, and keep every state return filed. Skipping APOB where your stock sits risks blocked input tax credit, penalties and in bad cases cancellation of registration.
Module 5: GST Filing from MTR Reports
Use MTR_B2B and MTR_B2C to file GSTR-1 correctly, report B2B invoices with the buyer GSTIN, and handle e-invoicing once turnover crosses the threshold. The costly errors are double counting a return Amazon already netted in GSTR-8, filing B2B as B2C, and never issuing credit notes so you pay GST on income you never earned.
Module 6: FBA Fees and Reimbursement Claims
Read the FBA fee schedule, then file reimbursement claims within the 60 day window and manage the Manage Your Manufacturing Cost data that now decides your payout. Since Amazon pays on sourcing cost and not selling price, a blank manufacturing cost lets Amazon estimate low, and high margin products can be underpaid heavily.
Module 7: Returns and Their Financial Impact
Track a return from customer refund to closing fee to inventory disposition, raise the credit note, and reverse the GST liability in the right month. Owners lose margin because a 2025 change means closing fees on returned orders are no longer reimbursed, and because return costs are never mapped back against the original sale.
Module 8: Vendor Central Deductions and Chargebacks
Read the Vendor Central remittance, identify shortage claims and operational chargebacks, and dispute them within the 30 day window with the two allowed attempts. Vendors bleed money by never disputing Amazon driven shortages, missing ASN and PO compliance, and letting recoverable deductions expire unchallenged.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need this if I already file GST for retail clients?
Yes, because marketplace filing behaves differently. Amazon collects TCS, nets returns inside GSTR-8, and gives you MTR files that must be handled without double counting, and none of that appears in ordinary retail filing.
Do I need GST registration in every state where Amazon stores stock?
If you use FBA and your goods sit in a fulfillment centre in a state, you generally need a GSTIN there and must add that warehouse as an APOB. We cover the full process with the Amazon documentation kit.
Will this help me recover money, or is it only compliance?
Both. Beyond clean filing, you learn to claim FBA reimbursements on the correct manufacturing cost, dispute Vendor Central shortages and chargebacks in time, and claim accumulated TCS credit that many sellers never touch.
Is the content current for 2025 and 2026?
Yes. It reflects the 2025 reimbursement policy based on sourcing cost, the change ending closing fee reimbursement on returns, and the current TCS, 194-O and e-invoicing positions.
